Raku Taster Workshop - Saturday 12th July 2025, 10.30am-4pm
Join us for a fun and action-packed full day workshop, where you’ll learn about the ancient art of Japanese Raku fast-firing and glazing
Saturday 12th July, 10.30am-4pm
You’ll decorate 2x beautifully thrown bottles with raku glazes, horse hair, wool, feathers and plant materials to create stunning effects.
Suitable for everyone from complete beginners to those who’ve tried Raku before - this will be a fun day of experimentation, team work and low-fire magic!
Running order:
Decorate your pieces with raku glazes
Load the kiln and start the firing process
Stop for a communal lunch, go for a walk to forage decorating materials for the naked raku
Once the kiln is ready - work in teams to smoke fire the glazed work or decorate the naked raku with horsehair, wool, feathers and plant materials
Dunk in water to cool, clean pots and chat about our results
Clean-up and packdown with everyone heading off at around 4pm
Things to be aware of…
Weather dependent - we need a dry, wind-free day so the date may need to change if the weather is bad.
This is an organised activity but you are taking part entirely at your own risk. Adults 18yrs+ only.
You’ll need to wear 100% cotton/linen long-sleeve top and full-length trousers as well as full covering leather shoes/boots to protect yourself from the heat of the kiln - please ensure you have this as without you cannot participate
Bring a packed lunch for a communal lunch in the studio or outside if the weather is good - we have a microwave if you wish to heat something up
Please inform us at the time of booking if you have any accessibility requirements (such as being differently abled, reduced mobility, neurodiverse etc) or health issues that we need to be aware of (such as balance issues, low blood pressure, allergies etc).
Workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable without exception. Please check you can attend the date/time before booking as mistakes cannot be rectified afterwards, and we can't reimburse you or offer an alternative date for a missed session. We are a small business and workshops run at full occupancy so we can keep the lights on and our bellies full!
