Level 2 Throwing Course: Progression, design & form
6-Week Level 2 Pottery Wheel Throwing Course | Max. 7 Participants | Wiltshire Pottery Studio
Develop your pottery wheel throwing skills and explore more confident making.
Our Level 2 pottery wheel throwing course is designed for potters who have already completed Level 1 Foundations, or have equivalent experience, and are ready to progress beyond the basics.
Working alongside an experienced practising potter in a relaxed, supportive studio, you'll refine technique, improve consistency and explore more ambitious forms while developing your own creative voice on the wheel.
What You'll Explore
Over six weeks, areas of exploration may include:
Refining throwing consistency
Throwing with larger amounts of clay
Bowls and more considered open forms
Cylinder variation, height and proportion
Handles and pulled additions
Lids and lidded forms
Pouring forms and spouts
Trimming, finishing and refining form
Developing greater confidence, gesture and individuality in your work
Is This Course Right For Me?
This course is ideal if you can already confidently:
Centre clay
Cone clay
Throw simple cylinders
Throw simple bowls
If you're completely new to pottery wheel throwing, or would benefit from refreshing core skills, we recommend starting with Level 1 Foundations before progressing to Level 2.
Think of Level 1 like learning to drive. Once you've mastered the fundamentals, you're ready to explore new destinations.

Glazing & Firing
This course focuses exclusively on pottery wheel throwing, allowing you to spend every session developing your making skills. We'll bisque fire up to 8 finished pots for you at the end of the course.
If you'd like to glaze your work, join our separate Glazing Workshop, where ceramic artist Rachelle Corker will introduce stoneware glazes and oxides, and decoration techniques.
Small Groups, Individual Support
With a maximum of 7 students, you'll receive plenty of one-to-one guidance, demonstrations and feedback while learning alongside a friendly community of fellow makers.
Learn From Practising Potters
Our Level 2 tutors, Ryo Sakai and Matt Waite, are experienced professional ceramic artists with distinctive making practices and a passion for teaching. They'll help you troubleshoot techniques, refine forms and build the confidence to create more considered and ambitious work.
